First of the FLEET

First boats ready !
Just sorting out the first of the boats ready for May 1st launch. Each boat will taken to a location to be photographed by me before I send them, these first five will be taken to the sight of the old ships graveyard, as this is where I was initially inspired to begin the FLEET project. All boats will be taken and  photographed (some of them around the UK) before completing their journeys around the world. The boats will be launched in stages, not in numerical sequence and I've decided to dispatch them in the order that collaborators joined the project I will add to this as more people take part. (only 30 boats left now ! )

FLEET Boat 47

Some of the FLEET boats will have an important link to place of their launch. Boat No 47 has been photographed outside the former home of WW1 Poet Wilfred Owen
During his short life he spent a few months in this location while undergoing training, it's sad to think he was killed just a few days before the war came to an end. I hope that Boat 47 reaches a peaceful location as far removed from the horrors of the trenches.

Turning artwork into 50 Boats !

I'm starting to transform this pile of artwork into the first of the 50 boats for the FLEET project, I will make 100 in total, so it is quite a lot of planning and a carefully organised effort, not something that I'm used to, must start to make a few lists !

Making the FLEET boats

Starting to create the FLEET of small boats that will soon be launched around the world, really started to move forward with this project now and looking forward to see how it continues to grow.

Location photographs of the FLEET boats

FLEET
Took new location photographs today of the small origami boats. Before each one is launched I will take them to a suitable location to photograph them and include this as part of the documentation of the artwork.

FLEET project next stage

I've decided to continue with the idea of using some of my own artwork as part of the FLEET project. Taking a portfolio of my old work, this will be transformed into the small origami boats that will eventually be launched around the world to those willing to be among the collaborators of this project.

Old artworks transformed

Origami boats

Starting to develop the FLEET of small origami boats folded from a portfolio of my own artwork. Some of the pieces used are over 20 years old, I'm still not sure how this project will develop, it depends entirely on the willingness of others taking part, and to get this started the task of generating some interest is quite challenging.

FLEET (New collaborative art project)

FLEET
The project now has a name, I think it was time to give this boat project thing a proper name. After yesterday's test photos I have decided to go ahead and move forward with this, as it's a collaborative project and involves trying to get as many people involved as possible it needs to start generating some interest.

Origami boat project tests

Location test photos for the small boats

Location tests for boat project

Boat tests
Just been out to take some test photographs for the boat project, need to test a few more colours, this one gets a bit lost in the landscape. Very windy so it was tricky. I like the results so far so will continue to develop this idea onto the next stage. This boat works much better than the previous prototype, so I've abandoned the cut out design. This gives much more scope for the monoprint textures and it means it is much easier to photograph.

Collaborative art project

Origami boats project
Latest prototype of this monoprint/paper boat project. I am pleased with the way this is developing at the moment and I'm now starting to work on the monoprint part of the design it's a project that combines sculpture, painting and photography. I will take this new prototype out for some test photographs today and post some results later.
